Early Life and Musical Roots
Xyclone, born Roje Roman Robinson on November 2, 1987, in Waterford, St. Catherine, Jamaica, is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall recording artist whose electrifying performances, chart-topping albums, and global influence have solidified his place in the music industry. Raised in Portmore, a hub of Jamaican musical talent, he developed a passion for music early on, blending traditional dancehall rhythms with modern influences to create a distinctive sound that resonates with themes of love, life, and Jamaican heritage. A finance graduate, he combines his raw musical talent with sharp business acumen, maintaining a strong connection with fans through platforms like Instagram (@xycloneofficial).
Discovery and Rise with Red Square Productions
Xyclone’s big break came when he was discovered by veteran dancehall artist Spragga Benz at a show in Hartford, Connecticut. This pivotal moment led to his signing with Spragga’s Red Square Productions, launching his career on an international stage. Under Red Square, he toured extensively across the United States, performing in 42 of the 50 states, captivating audiences with his energetic stage presence and authentic dancehall vibes. His first official single, “Back it Up,” released in 2011 on the Audacity Riddim, marked his entry into the scene, showcasing his ability to deliver catchy, high-energy tracks.

RSQTHP Music Group and Breakthrough Hits
In 2012, Xyclone joined forces with Survivor Slim of Tropical Heat Productions, forming the RSQTHP Music Group (Red Square Tropical Heat Production), a collaborative entity that propelled his career further. His first single under RSQTHP, “Top Shottas Anthem,” was a tribute to his mentor Spragga Benz, featuring former Portmore Empire artist Deva Bratt. That same year, he released “Back Pocket Rag,” a track that became a global anthem among dancehall fans for its infectious rhythm and lyrical flair. The song’s success led to a remix by Grammy-winning artist Beenie Man and his protégé Cee Gee, amplifying its reach. RSQTHP also released other successful singles, including “Woiii” and “It’s On,” the latter featuring Kevin Lyttle, Red Rat, Delly Ranx, and Deva Bratt, all distributed by VPAL Music, a subsidiary of VP Records. These tracks established him as a rising star in the reggae and dancehall scenes.
Debut Album and iTunes Success
In August 2015, he released his debut studio album, The Xyclone LP, through VPAL Music. The album, featuring collaborations with Spragga Benz, Beenie Man, Cee Gee, Gappy Ranks, and Red Rat, peaked at #13 on the iTunes reggae charts, earning critical acclaim for its blend of roots reggae and modern dancehall. Building on this momentum, he released his highly anticipated sophomore album, From the Basement to the Big Leagues, on December 16, 2016. The album debuted at #6 on the iTunes reggae charts, climbing to #5 within a week, and entered the Billboard Reggae Chart at #14. By June 27, 2017, it achieved a historic milestone, reaching #1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart, making him the first independent artist in eight years to claim the top spot. The album featured chart-topping singles like “Tell The Truth” (ft. Star Cole) and “How Yuh Bad Suh,” which collectively garnered millions of views and solidified his global fanbase.
Continued Success and Later Albums
Xyclone continued to build his legacy with subsequent releases. His third album, 2774 Waterford Parkway (2018), peaked at #4 on the Billboard Reggae Chart, showcasing his ability to evolve while staying true to his dancehall roots. In 2019, The Year of the Wolf reached #3 on the same chart, with standout tracks like Meck It Clap Remix (ft. Konshens) and It’s You That I Need, produced by Bobby Konders of Massive B fame, highlighting his versatility. His collaborations extended to other notable artists, including Konshens, Massive B (Money Dance), and Favorite Girl, blending traditional and contemporary dancehall elements.
Recent Collaborations and Flawless Victory EP
In 2024, Xyclone teamed up with Bay-C, formerly of TOK, for the Flawless Victory EP, a project that further cemented his influence in the dancehall scene. The EP combined their signature styles, delivering hard-hitting tracks that resonated with fans worldwide.
