Early Life and Discovery of Talent:

Born Jerome Adrian Smith in Kingston, Jamaica, Jah Lil discovered his singing talent at the tender age of six, often singing along to songs on the radio. He began to showcase his talent at Rousseau Primary School, participating in morning devotions and concerts. His vocal journey continued as he joined Jamaica College’s first “All Together Sing” choir, where he developed his skills further and gained confidence performing at weddings, funerals, and church concerts.

Untrained Yet Gifted: The Musical Path:

Jah Lil attributes his ability to sing, write songs, and play the keyboard to divine guidance, as he has never received formal musical training. His natural talent flourished with the support of his family and faith, which drove him to pursue music passionately.

Breakthrough with J.C.D.C. Gospel Song Competition:

In 2011, Jah Lil met musician and producer John Williams of Almond Productions, marking a pivotal moment in his career. Their collaboration led him to win the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (J.C.D.C.) Gospel Song Competition with his song “Weeping Men.” The track not only secured first place but also won three sectional prizes: Best Performance, Best Arranged Song, and Best Lyrics, setting him on a path to greater recognition.

Collaboration with Danny Brownie and Main Street Records:

Jah Lil’s distinct vocal style caught the attention of renowned producer Danny Brownie of Main Street Records. In 2014, the duo released their first single, “One Wrong One Right,” which received international airplay and acclaim. He has since dedicated his time to the studio, working on an album project with Brownie, which was initially set for release in early 2015.
