SOCA lovers will have an opportunity to ring in the season’s start at Bacchanal New Year — Fete and Band Launch scheduled for Mas Camp in St Andrew, on Friday.

“It’ll be a super, fun-filled start to the Carnival season. It’s not New Year until Bacchanal says so,” said Michael Ammar Jr, Bacchanal Jamaica director.

The director said in addition to the festivities, patrons will have a chance to see the season’s costumes for the first time.

“This year is a special one. We’ll be celebrating the life of Earl ‘Fuzzy’ Franklin,” he said.

Franklin, 68, was a costume designer with Bacchanal Jamaica for 17 years. He collapsed while driving in July 2015 and died shortly thereafter.

“He had designed and made all the costumes before he died. His wife, Charmaine, a Bacchanal Jamaica director, had to only fine-tune them,” said Ammar Jr.

The evening’s soundtrack will be provided by DJ Sanjay, Back2Basics and Richie Ras.

“We’ve kept the prices same as last year... $1,500 pre-sold and $2,000 at the gate for general. VIP is $4,000 pre-sold and $4,500 at the gate. We’ll be having mug deals for patrons as well,” he said.
