At age 16, Phorein entered the United States (Connecticut) where he officially recorded “Sipping Champagne†featuring Junior Holt. The duo entered and won “Showtime at the Apollo†a long standing television show. The single was followed up by recordings alongside Elephant Man and Merciless, tours in the US & Jamaica with Christine Hewitt and the CO2 Band and live performances, sharing the stage with Mad Cobra, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Terror Fabulous, Anthony B, and other prominent reggae artists.
Inspired by a new lease on life, the artist Melo Yellow gave way to Phorein. A new direction, new sound, new energy, and new vibes, essentially a rebirth with a purpose.
Phorein recorded his first studio album in 2012. Executively produced by Phorein, the Album features productions by: John “Raf†Allen, Dirty Jokerz, Cris Gold (Goldmind Productions), Vershion (Magichian Records), and by Phorein himself. The lead single, “Dreaming of a Better Day†has received steady airplay on Jamaica’s #1 Radio Station Irie FM, Busy Radio in Connecticut and radio stations across the globe. The accompanying music video, which was recently released can be currently viewed on YouTube.
Phorein is currently building his catalogue with other releases such as, “Want to See I Fall†on the Heart Clean Riddim, “Brighter Days†on the Ole Iron Riddim (both released by Goldmind Productions) and “Invest†on the Off Balance Riddim released by Magician Records. Most recently Phorein has recorded songs with Reggae singer Chuck Fenda, and Vershon, “Dem nah Pray†and “Street Cry†respectively.
Phorein donates a significant portion of time raising money and awareness for the Soraya Amy Jackson Foundation. The SAJ Foundation was founded in memory of his daughter, Soraya, who passed away in 2007, after a tenacious fight against cancer. In 2016, the foundation will be awarding scholarships to youths in Jamaica attending their first year in college. Details are listed on the website, www.SAJFoundation.com.
All profits from Phorein’s music sales are donated to the SAJ Foundation. Phorein’s desire to make Jamaica a better place to live can be witnessed not only in his songs, but in his actions.
